Can we do something for Hand-held devices?
My brother has a PDA (Portable Digital Assistant) of HTC brand. Usually when he is traveling or at any other places where there is no internet is available; he checks his mails in that. So other day I asked him to visit my website flyingpens.com and he did and congratulated me for having a website. Then I asked him “how is the website?” He said “brother, I am now checking the website in my PDA and it is showing just your logo, some links and content. Then I realized that it’s better to have our website compatible with the handheld devices too.
This is also not a rocket science to make our website compatible with the handheld devices. For that all we need to have is, a different CSS assuming your available maximum width as the device’s screen width. And also here we may need to use limited CSS unlike the one which we use for desktop monitors. Usually what I have observed is, the websites which have this PDA compatibility, are just focusing on the main areas like search bar( if it is Google or Yahoo), keeping all other links as general HTML inks with limited styles and using images as less as possible to make their site download much faster in the handheld devices where they have the limited internet bandwidth and processing speed when compared to the internet for the general computers.
There are some browsers which recently added a feature to preview your website in small screen. I think Opera is famous for that. So we need not to be rich enough to test our websites in PDAs
